BUSINESS NEWS

  • America's Car-Mart has closed 13 underperforming locations as part of its consolidation plan, including five in Arkansas (Hope, Malvern, Springdale, Van Buren, and Russellville). Customers previously served by these sites will get service at nearby dealerships.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Springdale-based 7 Brew has expanded to over 600 drive-thru locations nationwide and appointed CFO Matthew Dunnigan, formerly of Restaurant Brands International, who will relocate locally and report to CEO John Davidson to support its rapid growth from 14 locations in 2019.  NWA Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springdale Public Schools is reviewing Jones Elementary’s future amid financial and enrollment challenges (declining numbers are affecting planning), with rebuilt plans on the current site paused and no final decision made on relocation.  5 News
  • Arkansas is investing nearly $40M in early childhood education — boosting literacy and expanding preschool access statewide. The funding includes a $14M Preschool Development Grant and two literacy research grants to support tutoring programs for K-3 students.  5 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Springdale-based George's Inc. and George's Farms Inc. reached a settlement with Oklahoma on Wednesday, agreeing to pay $10 million & reduce poultry litter use in the Illinois River watershed with limits dropping from 40% to 20% over the next seven years while appeals continue.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An Urban3 consultant presented data on property values and development impacts in NWA yesterday, showing that denser, well planned communities yield higher long-term returns for residents and taxpayers. Benton County Judge Barry Moehring said the information informed the Northwest Arkansas Council’s growth plan due this spring.  4029 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • During Wednesday night’s game, Arkansas senior Nick Pringle scored 15 points with two early dunks as the Razorbacks defeated South Carolina 108-74. Coach Calipari praised Pringle’s efforts in a contest marked by swift turnovers and a record 27 assists for the team.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas men's basketball team defeated South Carolina 108-74 at Walton Arena Wednesday night as freshman guard Meleek Thomas scored 21 points & teammates contributed strong plays, setting the stage for a matchup with Georgia on Saturday.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
