  • On Dec. 19, Heide Harrell became the first Arkansan elected to chair the Public Relations Society of America at the Simmons Bank Building; she now guides the organization through its leadership transition.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Chocolate Fantasy Ball will take place on Feb. 28 at the center, beginning as a glamorous evening with tuxedos, gowns, lights, and desserts that soon becomes a philanthropic event (supporting local charities).  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Northwest Arkansas chapter of Contractors, Closers and Connections added new leaders and will host a networking event on Jan. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Garden Room in Fayetteville, featuring speeches by Mayor Molly Rawn and Britin Bostick with proceeds aiding 7hills homeless center.  NWA Business Journal
  • Misty Hudson joined Superior Linen Service as sales manager for southern Northwest, Dr. Jason Daily earned board certification in obesity medicine at MANA, Sarah Waddoups was promoted to partner at Matthews, Campbell, Rhoads, McClure and Thompson, P.A., and Gena Pierce certified as diabetes care specialist at Baptist Health-Fort Smith.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Guest conductor Akiko Fujimoto answered three quick questions on leading Across the Silk Road: Scheherazade as the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas continues its search for a new maestro. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A local initiative led by 50 For the Future has planted over 1,000 trees in Union County to boost beautification and lower carbon, with plans to extend similar efforts to downtown El Dorado. SPORTS NEWS

  • During Friday’s preseason scrimmage at Baum Walker Stadium, University of Arkansas baseball recorded three errors + saw standout plays and a leading home run by center fielder Maika Niu; Coach Dave Van Horn said the team is focusing on defense and the session ended with a 7 to 3 win.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas men’s basketball team got off to a slow start Saturday afternoon, scoring a season-low 32 points in the first half before falling 90 to 76 to Georgia at Stegeman Coliseum.
