CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Pea Ridge National Military Park will host its 164th battle anniversary events on Saturday (Mar. 7) featuring cannon firings and other historic displays. The celebration invites visitors to step back in time at this storied park. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas lawmakers approved a $3.5 billion public school budget request after reviewing spending priorities and accountability concerns. The request allocates $2.2 billion for state foundation funding (the largest portion) along with funds for student achievement and teacher salaries, and now moves to the House and Senate. 4029 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Freeman Health System reached an agreement on Thursday to buy four hospitals in Northwest Arkansas, including sites in Springdale, Bentonville, Johnson, and Siloam Springs. The not-for-profit will complete the deal in the second quarter (pending regulatory approvals) without disrupting patient care. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas softball will begin its SEC slate today with a three-game series against Georgia at Bogle Park. The Razorbacks are riding a 17-game win streak and face tough competition in a 24-game conference schedule. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ On Mar. 4, Arkansas beat Texas 105-85 at Bud Walton Arena with strong early runs setting the game’s pace. Coach Calipari praised the Razorbacks’ performance (Darius Acuff scored 28 points) as they prepare to finish the season at Missouri. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ The University of Arkansas announced it will soon begin work on a statue honoring former basketball coach Nolan Richardson outside Bud Walton Arena.
