EDUCATION NEWS

  • Educators in Springdale looked back on the covid-19 shutdown and its long-term effects as they marked its fifth anniversary. Kathy Short, who taught fifth grade when schools closed, said the experience changed classroom practices—leading to new teaching methods.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas reached a settlement with a coalition including the ACLU of Arkansas that extends certain covid-19 protocols in state prisons for one year from the agreement date. The deal requires the Department of Corrections to provide masks on request — to air a vaccine safety video and submit quarterly reports on compliance.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Between March 13 and March 19, the Washington County Clerk’s Office recorded marriage license applications from couples in Springdale and other local communities; the records show several applicants planned to wed during that week.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Washington County inspectors are checking local restaurants for priority violations designed to reduce foodborne illness hazards—violations that target safe practices in contamination prevention, cooking, reheating, cooling and handwashing.   • Five years after the covid-19 pandemic began, health care systems in Northwest Arkansas still show its impact. Many state physicians say systems changed for the better after then-President Biden declared the public health emergency over in April 2023.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
