  • Springdale's popular pizzeria and craft beer bar The Odd Soul kept all its employees working during the pandemic despite not making a profit—owner Jeffro Brown recalled his different business plan from when he opened in 2017.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Cody Hill, 23, from Fort Smith is wanted on fraud and theft charges after he missed four court hearings for cases including a fake realty firm scam — arrest warrants were issued by Benton, Washington, and Franklin counties.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced that 685 of nearly 13,000 bridges are in poor condition yet remain safe to drive on—investments for rehabilitation or replacement are being considered and more details are available on the Arkansas Bridges Dashboard. The rate of 5.35% in poor condition is lower than the national average of 8%.  4029 News
  • The Springdale City Council voted unanimously Tuesday—approving requests from seven nonprofit groups for federal community development funds for the 2025 fiscal year.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Springdale Police Chief Frank Gamble retired on Monday after beginning his career with the department (in 1988). Mayor Doug Sprouse and department officers honored his service at a retirement party.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve requests from seven nonprofit groups for federal community development funds for fiscal year 2025—the funds will support local projects.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Marshall Islands national soccer team will make its international debut this summer at the inaugural Outrigger Cup on the campus of John Brown University in Northwest Arkansas. The team will play full-sided matches against the U.S. Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos, and Guam from Aug. 11 to 17—organizers are fundraising to cover travel costs and work toward FIFA recognition.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • Arkansas will host its first statewide outdoor target archery championship this summer at The Quiver in Bentonville—USA Archery will hold practice sessions on June 20 followed by competition on Saturday, June 21 at 8:30 a.m. that includes individual events in compound, recurve, barebow and basic compound divisions awarding medals to top finishers.  Fayetteville Flyer
