GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday afternoon, Arkansas submitted its request to the federal government to add a work requirement to the state's Medicaid expansion program—accompanying responses to comments in opposition to the proposal.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that after two decades of chronic prison bed shortages — which have forced violent offenders into under-equipped county jails and risky early releases — the state will build a new 3,000-bed prison in Franklin County to boost public safety. The state has set aside funds to start the project, and the Legislature must now appropriate the full cost.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas lost to Texas Tech in overtime in their Sweet 16 game on March 27, ending the Razorbacks' chance to reach the Elite 8. The team had an early lead but Texas Tech rallied to win 85-83.  5 News
  • University of Arkansas baseball coach Dave Van Horn discussed the team's 10-inning loss to Missouri State on Tuesday as he warned players the setback might be brought up in practice—his team lost a five-run lead in the ninth inning. The Razorbacks will face No. 13 Vanderbilt in a three-game SEC series starting today at Hawkins Field in Nashville with an identical pitching rotation from their South Carolina sweep.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
