EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Jonathon Guthrie, principal of Bentonville West High School, was named the 2025 Arkansas High School Principal of the Year by the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators. He received the award during a pep rally on April 5th—where representatives presented it before students and staff.  KNWA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Net Zero Tire launched the NWA Bicycle Tire Recycling and Sustainability Program to let cyclists drop off used bike tires at the Boston Mountain Solid Waste District facility in Prairie Grove. The company will convert the tires into a rubber chip fuel for local paper mills and power plants and is working with area bike shops to set up additional drop-off stations.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Flooding continues across Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley as heavy rain has raised flash flood risks, caused accidents and led to road closures. An extra two inches of rain is possible today — Flood Warnings are in effect for areas near Lee Creek in Crawford and Sequoyah Counties and along the Arkansas River at Ozark Lock and Dam affecting Johnson, Franklin and Logan Counties — and local officials urge residents to stay cautious.  4029 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springdale Police Department promoted Derek Wright to police chief during a ceremony at the municipal building on Friday—other officers including Capt. Jared Pena, Lt. Ross Patton, and Sgt. Casey Burns also received new titles.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Arkansas baseball team played a seven-inning opener against Missouri on Saturday, winning 21-3 at Baum-Walker Stadium — and today's doubleheader will also use the seven-inning format after severe rain adjusted the schedule.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas football team signed Ja'Quinden Jackson—who played at Utah—last offseason and now hopes that New Mexico State transfer Mike Washington Jr. will help the team win games.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
