  • The Jones Center for Families received a $1.2 million grant to create the Northwest Arkansas Regional Volunteer Center, set to launch in 2027 with Tyson Foods as an operational partner; the project was announced at the center’s 30th anniversary event on Thursday, Apr. 16 — marking a milestone in volunteerism.  NWA Business Journal

  • Local cyber experts warn that rising extortionware may steal sensitive data and threaten to release it unless businesses pay, urging companies to update their cyber defenses. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University board approved on Thursday up to $132 million in bonds to fund improvements including Maple Hill Central residence hall (costing $107 million) and heating upgrades on the Fayetteville campus; the issuance also set aside funds for a parking garage and new classroom building amid growing enrollment.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • At a Jones Center event Thursday, Walmart announced a $1.2 million grant to launch the state’s first regional volunteer center in 2027 to boost community health and connection.   • Arkansas baseball will play the Bulldogs tonight at Baum-Walker Stadium at 7 p.m. Left-hander Hunter Dietz starts for the Razorbacks while Georgia coach Wes Johnson (a former Arkansas pitching coach) returns to the stadium.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Today, the Arkansas women's golf team begins the SEC championship at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, riding on momentum from two top 10 finishes at ANWA.   • Bentonville West's softball team extended its win streak to six games after defeating Springdale Har-Ber in a 6A-West contest, building momentum after winning just two of its first five matchups.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Louisiana Tech transfer guard Jianna Morris committed to the Razorbacks after announcing her decision on Thursday. The 5-7 native from Sherwood averaged 11.2 points (with 2.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists) last season and is the third transfer joining the team this offseason.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
