ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents of Tontitown filed a class action lawsuit on April 18 against Eco-Vista Landfill, alleging that noxious odors and harmful chemicals from leachate have invaded homes within a three-mile area. They are asking for damages — orders to stop the odor nuisance, require the landfill to meet air permit standards, and cover attorney fees. KNWA

- ➤ Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed three bills—HB1931, SB485, and SB537—on April 16 to reduce the state’s reoffense rate by launching reentry programs, revising parole rules, and awarding work credits to released inmates, a move aimed at cutting prison costs—$140 million a year. KNWA
- ➤ Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed Arkansas Senate Bill 371, which requires state police to set up a missing endangered child advisory system to report cases when children go missing without meeting AMBER Alert criteria — the Morgan Nick Foundation said the change covers situations like unexplained or involuntary disappearances and aims to add extra safety for kids. - ➤ Groups including the League of Women Voters filed a federal lawsuit in Fayetteville, saying that new state laws make it too hard for Arkansans to get measures on the ballot.
