CRIME NEWS

  • Two Madison County men arrested in Springdale for making roosters fight waived arraignment in Washington County Circuit Court on Wednesday and have court dates set.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Don Tyson Theatre students performed The Outsiders as the final show of the 2024-25 season—drawing on Robert Frost's 'Nothing gold can stay' to highlight timeless themes in the arts. The performance at Don Tyson School of Innovation marked the season's close and showcased local talent.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • More than 300 local artists and makers will display their work at the NWA Makers Market this Sunday at the Washington County Fairgrounds. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and charges $5 for adults while kids 16 and under enter free — food trucks, coffee and a beer garden will serve visitors.  Fayetteville Flyer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After several days of heavy rains, seven gates were opened at Beaver Lake Dam on Tuesday to lower the lake level and draw local onlookers (lake level reached 1,129.27 ft near flood pool). All but one gate closed at 11 a.m. on Tuesday (the remaining gate stayed open to control the water release).  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Doug Schoenrock, former president of Ducks Unlimited, was named director of the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and will assume the role in May—replacing Austin Booth who resigned in January and took a CEO job at Banded Holdings Inc.  5 News
  • The Arkansas League of Women Voters filed a lawsuit against Secretary Cole Jester, alleging that six new laws violate state and federal constitutional rights by making it harder to bring issues to the ballot — the group has also submitted a referendum to reverse the changes and plans a further effort with the attorney general.  KNWA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Baseball fans gathered Tuesday night at Arvest Ballpark to watch Major League All-Star pitcher Clayton Kershaw (of the Los Angeles Dodgers) pitch during his rehab start with the Tulsa Drillers. The game (hosted by the Northwest Arkansas Naturals) drew a large crowd as he returned from injury.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas Edge, the Razorbacks NIL collective, is reported to seek about $200,000 from freshman quarterback Madden Iamaleava who entered the transfer portal after attending spring camp. Fayetteville attorney J.R. Carroll said the case highlights a growing challenge in NIL deals—universities are adding contract clauses to address early transfers.  5 News
