BUSINESS NEWS

  • A building permit was issued on April 29 for The Sundry Hotel, a new $28 million, five-story, 124-room boutique hotel at 203 E. Emma Ave. in downtown Springdale. Construction will soon begin by Crossland Construction and the project—covering 85,167 square feet between the Razorback Greenway and the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad—will include a restaurant with Blue Crane as the property owner.  NWA Business Journal
  • Jerry Cox, founder of JLC Second Chance Trucking, spent the past year building a solid foundation at his Siloam Springs office to help formerly incarcerated people become truck drivers. His nonprofit—backed by local supporters and grant funding—has already helped 13 individuals and will expand services with new hires and housing support in the coming months.  NWA Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Daniel Blanks, a Fort Smith man with ties to white supremacist groups, received a life sentence on April 21 in federal court for the 2021 kidnapping and murder of Springdale man Richard Phillips.  5 News

  • Construction is underway at Northwest Arkansas National Airport in Highfill as Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art builds its new satellite gallery—located near the B gates—and the gallery will open this summer with a ribbon-cutting event.  KNWA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Arkansas tennis player Rick O’Keefe battled rare cancer after a snapped clavicle and a tumor on his kidney (which brought him and his fiancé together through their shared love of tennis). After surgery and six weeks of rest, he returned to the court and now begins radiation for his shoulder as he continues his fight to be cancer-free.  5 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Sarah Taldo-Brothers, an executive broker with Weichert, Realtors-The Griffin Co., and her husband Zach Brothers just finished their first infill cottage court project in downtown Springdale — the Hideaway. They worked with city planners to revise local codes that once blocked such projects — a move aimed at boosting property values in the area.  NWA Business Journal
