- ➤ Matthew Holden, a biology teacher at Fayetteville High, will join a 21-day expedition with the Ocean Exploration Trust this summer on the Exploration Vessel Nautilus—where he will study underwater volcanoes and shipwrecks and share his discoveries with local classrooms and others around the globe. He will also spend several days in the Marshall Islands to connect with local culture and bring back lessons that inspire his students. 5 News

- ➤ FEMA rejected Arkansas’ request for a major disaster declaration after the March 14–15 storms—saying the damage did not go beyond the state, local governments and volunteer agencies’ abilities to respond. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ A Yale study found that Arkansas had a period life expectancy of 76.6 years in 2020—a figure that places it near the bottom nationally alongside states like Mississippi, West Virginia, Alabama and Kentucky. Researchers linked the lower lifespan to factors such as health behaviors, limited access to healthcare and policy decisions over time. KNWA
- ➤ Arkansas legislators, health providers and health advocates said the legislative session advanced health care by expanding maternal care and allowing community health workers to be certified—making their services reimbursable by Medicaid.
