Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 5th of May.
Good morning, Springdale.
On May 4, firefighters from local agencies gathered at Memorial Park in Siloam Springs to honor fallen firefighters at the Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters event — organizers said it was the first tribute of its kind in Arkansas.
The ceremony featured the ringing of a 104-year-old bell that once served as the department’s first motorized fire apparatus — a tribute that came as a reminder of the risks of the job following Kansas City firefighter-paramedic Graham Hoffman's recent death.
Walton Arts Center honored high school musical theater talent from 10 Northwest Arkansas schools with its inaugural Diamond Awards on May 4.
Winners Cardon Sullivan and Audrey Redwine won Best Actor and Best Actress—qualifying for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York City this June—and the event also recognized outstanding supporting roles, ensemble performances and arts educators.
