COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A fire damaged the historic St. Joseph Center, and the community raised $100,000 through crowdfunding to help begin repairs—more work will be needed to fully restore the building.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Theatre Collective of Northwest Arkansas will stage 'Disenchanted!' at The Medium, 200 Holcomb St., Springdale starting May 23 with shows at 7 p.m. on May 23 and 24 and a matinee at 2 p.m. on May 25—this musical comedy uses bold humor to rework classic princess stories—featuring performers like Diana Weeks as Snow White and Kayla Henderson as Cinderella.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Momentary will open three new exhibits on May 24 while Arts One Presents held summer musical auditions on May 18 and set callbacks for May 21 at The Medium in Springdale—other events include free museum day, art shows, and live music in Fayetteville and Bentonville through May 26.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A first-year architecture student at the University of Arkansas is recreating Northwest Arkansas in Minecraft—he built detailed models of Fayetteville, Rogers, and Bentonville—and he has grown his Instagram following to nearly 3,500 since February.  KNWA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the city of Rogers is creating a new historic preservation job — funded by Walton money — to help preserve the history of the city and surrounding county.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Maria Jose Marin shot a bogey free 65—her best round ever by a Razorback—and led by one stroke at Sunday’s NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, Calif as she scored 7 under par and moved the Arkansas women’s golf team up six spots into a tie for fifth. The team will complete today’s final round for a top-eight cut in stroke play.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The University of Arkansas baseball team earned the No. 2 SEC Tournament seed after finishing a tough schedule with wins over Texas, LSU and Tennessee—Coach Dave Van Horn said their 20 SEC wins mark a special achievement.
