COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Monday night, severe storms moved through our area leaving many without power. Ozarks Electric Cooperative said over 1,400 customers lost power in Washington and Madison counties at 5:20 p.m.—SWEPCO, Carroll Electric and OG&E also reported outages, with OG&E noting 277 outages in the River Valley and over 10,000 customers affected in Oklahoma.  4029 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Little Rock-based florist Tipton & Hurst announced Monday, May 19 it will open its first Northwest Arkansas store at Village on the Creeks in Rogers. The 2,200 square foot store (5204 Village Parkway, Suite 5) will open on Sept. 1 and employ between 8 and 12 workers while offering fresh flowers, bridal registries, gifts, and home décor.  NWA Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, an Arkansas legislative panel approved a proposal to raise the state's contract with a Virginia firm by $1.5 million for ID card supplies due to a surge in requests from new Real ID rules and recent storms (this move is meant to prevent shortages). The panel also voted to advance a $3 million media campaign for maternal health while rejecting a $2.1 million proposal to guide state employees through loan forgiveness programs.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
