Good morning, Springdale.
Market Center of the Ozarks (45,000 square feet) opened Thursday in Springdale to help local farmers and food entrepreneurs get their produce into schools, hospitals and markets.
The facility is funded by a $31 million investment from the Walton Family Foundation (which also supports coworking spaces and technical assistance) and now offers cold storage, processing facilities and certified kitchens.
A Walton Family Foundation report shows that Northwest Arkansas faces a housing crisis as rapid growth outpaces development—home prices have increased about 70.9% since 2019 and low-income rental needs have risen from 7,100 to 9,300.
The report urges regional leaders to work together on safe, affordable housing as the area moves toward a population of 1 million by 2050.
A report released Tuesday shows that Northwest Arkansas faces a worsening housing crisis that has grown more severe over the past five years.
The study highlights rising costs, few affordable options, and limited land, urging leaders from the region’s largest cities — Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale and Fayetteville — to work together for new housing plans.
