ECONOMY NEWS

  • Almost 90 vendors will offer job training, education, and other assistance for 700 to 800 displaced Cargill turkey processing plant workers at a career resource fair Friday from 1-5 p.m. at the Springdale Civic Center—organized by the Springdale Chamber of Commerce to help workers prepare before the plant closes on Aug. 1.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • At a board meeting on Thursday, Northwest Technical Institute introduced its new president and discussed the school’s future goals.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Pea Ridge students turned their classroom project into real-world success when they delivered a hay trailer to The 808 Ranch— which purchased their design for work on the ranch.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Northwest Technical Institute named its new president at a Board of Directors meeting on Thursday in Springdale. The board discussed future goals for the school as the new leader outlined plans to improve programs.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today the third-seeded Arkansas baseball team plays an elimination game against unseeded Murray State at Charles Schwab Field at 1 p.m.—the Razorbacks need to win four games in four days to advance—and coach Dave Van Horn plans to start right-hander Gage Wood though the plan may change.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • LSU freshman Derek Curiel performed like a seasoned hitter in Saturday’s College World Series game at Charles Schwab Field—his timely run added to LSU's 4-1 win over Arkansas. Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn said the Razorbacks struggled with their pitching and will tweak the offense before Monday's elimination game with Murray State.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
