- ➤ Independence Day fireworks shows are planned in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley, with Fort Smith’s celebration starting at 5 p.m. and Springdale’s Arvest Ballpark Fireworks following a game at 7:05 p.m.—tickets for these events are available online. 4029 News
- ➤ Nonprofit Weave: The Social Fabric Project announced The Weaver Awards to honor 20 local individuals and organizations building neighborly trust by offering a $5,000 grant and extra support; applications are open to Washington and Benton county residents until July 13. KNWA
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Six individuals were arrested in Northwest Arkansas on drug and firearm charges — including two from Springdale — and are held at Washington County Detention Center or Benton County Jail after arrests on Wednesday and Thursday. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Michael Crump, 32, was arrested on June 18 on charges of first-degree death by delivery of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence after a woman's overdose on March 25 at Northwest Medical Center—he is held on a $250,000 bond and faces a court date on June 23. KNWA

- ➤ The Springdale Chamber of Commerce hosted a career fair Friday at the Springdale Civic Center to support 700 workers who will be affected by the Cargill turkey processing plant closure on Aug. 1 — nearly 100 vendors offered resources to help guide them toward new jobs. 5 News

- ➤ An Arkansas Department of Education official told lawmakers Friday that the agency expected to cover all Education Freedom Account applications for the upcoming school year—evaluating the applications is still underway—while a legislative panel reviewed a $90 million request to allocate state reserve funds. - ➤ Arkansas lawmakers enacted Act 108 that changes fireworks sale dates to begin on June 13th instead of June 20th and run through July 10th during the summer while winter sales now span Dec. 10th to Jan. 5th.
