  • At Beaver Lake, anglers can use hand-launched jon boats and canoes on designated private waters open for public draw to fish for trout at the tailwater and catch bass, bream and catfish—black bass range from shallow to deep waters, according to Reece Jones of Hook, Line and Sinker.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Outdoor events in July give Springdale residents many ways to enjoy nature—Ozark Hill Hikers will host a walk on Wednesday at Hunt Family Nature Center while a free family hike to Kings River Falls is set for Friday, and some activities require registration. Other events include youth fishing camps in Springdale and Fort Smith, a bird-watching session on Saturday, a tree identification program on July 6 at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area, and an outdoors woman weekend from July 11 to 13, offering options for all ages.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • A Rogers man, 29-year-old Joseph Michael Alexander, pleaded not guilty to charges including attempted capital murder after he allegedly shot his mother with a crossbow on March 24—Benton County Prosecutor Bryan Sexton said he was arrested in Missouri after a high-speed chase and is held on a $750,000 cash-only bond.  KNWA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents can attend an open house today at Springdale City Hall from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to offer feedback on a railroad crossing safety study conducted by Fayetteville, Springdale and the Arkansas-Missouri Railroad, while a second session will take place on Thursday at the Rock Street Annex Meeting Room in Fayetteville—funded by the Federal Railroad Crossing Elimination Program—where opinions on safety upgrades at eight crossings along a 14-mile corridor will be collected.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Springdale Fire Department received statewide honors when it was named the 2025 Fire Department of the Year for cities over 20,000 and Fire Chief Blake Holte was recognized as Fire Chief of the Year for Arkansas at the State Fire Convention in Hot Springs—June 4—7. The awards honor the department’s service, performance and contributions to public safety.  KNWA
