CRIME NEWS

  • Carroll County authorities are investigating the death of 19-year-old Alexzander Drake Bernhardt after his body was found in a north Oak Grove road at about 10:37 p.m. Wednesday+ they are urging anyone with information to contact authorities.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Crystal Bridges has opened an art exhibit in the terminal at the Northwest Arkansas National Airport which will show new artwork every six months—giving travelers a taste of local culture. The gallery opened July 10 and will remain until September 2027.  5 News
  • Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art opened a new satellite gallery titled Home and Away in the XNA terminal on Thursday to display art exploring themes of place and discovery—designed to bring American art closer to travelers. The gallery will rotate exhibits every six months and offers free admission until September.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • First Liberty Institute filed a friend of the court brief on Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas to back state and local officials defending Arkansas Act 573, which requires Ten Commandments displays in every public school classroom and library. The brief argues that the passive displays do not coerce religious observance while a multi-faith group sued on June 12 claiming the law violates constitutional rights.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Juli McWhorter has been named chief executive officer at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville and will work with Kory Browning from Springdale to coordinate Northwest Health's market in NW Arkansas. She was formerly CEO at Willow Creek Women's Hospital and at Northwest Health Physicians' Specialty Hospital — experience that prepares her for the new role.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Trevon Brazile helped the Razorbacks reach the Sweet 16 last season and has built 10 extra pounds as he gets ready for his senior season. Coach Calipari said Brazile — now at 230 pounds — shows more leadership and a pro mindset that could help the team win.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • United Airlines has added two new direct flights from XNA—one for Nov.15 Razorbacks vs. LSU to Baton Rouge and one for Nov.22 Razorbacks vs. Texas to Austin—to help fans travel to key college football games. The airline will also add more nonstop flights and larger planes for other major games this season.  KNWA
