CRIME NEWS

  • Springdale police are searching for 18-year-old Rodney Tillman Jr.—a light-skinned Black male, 6 feet tall with a skeleton tattoo on his right hand—accused of a terroristic act and aggravated assault after he shot at a group near an apartment complex parking lot on July 7 and linked to an April incident in Marianna, with a warrant issued on July 14.  KNWA
  • Christopher Timos, 28, a former bank worker from Springdale, was arrested on July 16 for fraud charges involving identity and computer fraud with an alleged $42,731.28 taken from customer funds—he is held on a $15,000 bond and will appear in court on Aug. 13.  KNWA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Springdale Water Utilities is planning 15 new sewer projects over the next five years to upgrade the system as the area grows by three to four percent each year—nearly 230 million dollars in improvements are underway and water rates will rise to cover the costs. In about two months, repairs will begin on a broken sewer line at Sunset Avenue and Gutensohn Road, taking five days while businesses stay open.  5 News
  • Congress is set to debate a bill that cuts $9 billion in federal funding for programs such as public broadcasting—this includes $1.1 billion from the main source that funds KUAF, which serves over 750,000 people in Northwest Arkansas. KUAF said it needs an extra $264,000 to cover lost funds and warned that local news and emergency alerts might suffer if the cuts go through.  5 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pinnacle Sports Ventures is now operating in Northwest Arkansas to help athletes during and after their sports careers—CEO Chad Campbell said the company focuses on guiding athletes as whole people. The firm signed its first athlete, Romani Thurman—daughter of Razorback basketball star Scotty Thurman—and plans to add more signings soon.  5 News
  • Fayetteville High School baseball star Landon Schaefer was picked in the 20th round by the Philadelphia Phillies but chose to play for the Razorbacks. He committed to the team since 9th grade and said he wants to help win a national championship (for Coach Dave Van Horn).  KNWA
  • Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback Taylen Green talked with local media at SEC Media Days in Atlanta—he spoke before visiting the College Football Hall of Fame—and previewed the season opener at home against Alabama A&M on Aug. 30th.  KNWA
