COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tonitown Grape Festival is set to host a spaghetti-making event tomorrow, July 24th from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Volunteers will cut and dry homemade pasta for festival dinners held from Aug. 7th to Aug. 9th — a tradition since 1932 — to serve more guests than last year.  KNWA

CRIME NEWS

  • A Fayetteville man was arrested on July 20 for allegedly shooting a groom at a Springdale wedding around 12:50 a.m. on Upton Lane—he faces charges of second-degree attempted murder, a terroristic act and public intoxication, was released on a $7,500 bond and will appear in court on Aug. 13.  KNWA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The 2025 Arkansas sales tax holiday will run from Saturday, Aug. 2 until Sunday, Aug. 3—state and local sales tax will be waived on specific items such as clothing under $100, clothing accessories under $50, select electronics, and school supplies with set limits.  KNWA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springdale school leaders met today as Superintendent Jared Cleveland urged the board to consider forming an AI task force—which would set safe guidelines for using AI in classrooms—and a Community Engagement Council to address technology issues in education.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At a Fayetteville scientific conference held Tuesday, experts shared that microwave popcorn was once seen as a threat to drinking water — a view now part of a broader study into water quality risks — and they stressed that updated research is guiding current understanding.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Denis Dean, the chief deputy in the Washington/Madison County Prosecutor’s Office, announced Monday he is running for the 4th Judicial District prosecutor role. He has served as a prosecutor in Northwest Arkansas for 18 years and lives in Fayetteville with his family — if elected, he will target violent offenders, support specialty courts for addiction and mental illness, and prosecute sex offenders with the election set for March 3, 2026.  Fayetteville Flyer
