Southwest Power Pool in Little Rock received an emergency order from the Energy Department on Sunday — idle power sources will be deployed to prevent heat wave blackouts for 20 million people.

The NWA fishing report notes that nightcrawler harness rigs work for walleye and striped bass at Beaver Lake from first light to sunrise between Rocky Branch Park and Beaver Dam — local guides report crappie, trout and black bass biting at several other lakes.
Arkansas basketball will open SEC play against Missouri on Jan.
