- ➤ Springdale-based nonprofit Business and Industry Training received a $43,000 grant from the Arconic Foundation for automated electrical training systems and multimedia course materials. The new equipment, which uses visual detection to make production faster and more reliable, will be installed at its Springdale site—helping local manufacturers grow. NWA Business Journal
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Prosecutors will seek the death penalty for Andrew James McGann—accused of killing two people at Devil’s Den State Park on July 26 and arrested on July 31 at a Springdale barbershop after video and DNA evidence linked him to the crime. Fayetteville Flyer
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Cargill turkey processing plant in Springdale closed its doors on Aug. 1—after decades of operation—and left about 800 workers searching for new jobs. City leaders said that 300 employees got early retirement or were relocated while a job fair and new local opportunities are helping to ease the transition. 5 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Shiloh Christian School celebrated the grand opening of its new 62000 square foot elementary building in Springdale on Friday, August 1st. The facility merges its prekindergarten to fourth grade students from Springdale and Rogers, features 27 classrooms, office suites and two playgrounds—fall classes start Aug. 12.
