  • About 150 local nonprofit professionals attended the inaugural Nonprofit Jam in Bentonville, where OpenAI Academy, Walton Family Foundation — and Heartland Forward taught nonprofits to use ChatGPT for case management and outreach while offering 12 months of free access to ChatGPT Plus.  NWA Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Little Rock man Rodney Tillman, 18, was arrested on Aug 5 for shooting at a group at a Springdale apartment complex parking lot on July 7 that hit four cars and led to charges of second-degree criminal mischief, aggravated assault and committing a terroristic act — he is scheduled to appear in Washington County Circuit Court on Aug 18 at 7:45 a.m. and is held on a $50,000 bond.  KNWA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge stopped a law that would have made schools display the Ten Commandments because he ruled it likely breaks First Amendment rights. The judge’s order applied to districts in Fayetteville, Springdale, Bentonville and Siloam Springs.  Fayetteville Flyer
  • The city of Springdale cut the ribbon on the new Dr. E. Walter LeFevre Bridge on Monday, which spans I-49 and extends West Emma Avenue from 40th to 48th streets. Bill Rogers and Mayor Doug Sprouse led the ceremony—marking a milestone in local infrastructure improvements.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Local attorney Wendy Howerton announced her campaign for the Division 2 circuit judge seat in Washington and Madison counties today to replace Judge John Threet when his term ends in December. Howerton—a Fayetteville attorney with 20 years of experience—says she will focus on building a fair and efficient court system ahead of the nonpartisan election on March 3rd.  Fayetteville Flyer

SPORTS NEWS

  • At preseason camp for Arkansas football, Julian Neal was moved from backup to a starting role and said his local family ties helped him feel at home while he practiced with receiver Raylen Sharpe as NFL scouts from six teams watched. The team will run 25 practices this month and will open the season on Aug. 30 at Reynolds Razorback Stadium — a busy time ahead for the Hogs.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
