CRIME NEWS

  • Col. Mike Hagar of Arkansas State Police said in a legislative subcommittee meeting that state parks should allow guns because more good people carrying weapons will improve safety—his statement followed last month's incident at Devil’s Den where two people were killed and suspect McGann was arrested on capital murder charges.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas State Police chief Col.   • Springdale Public Schools is launching an AI task force of teachers, faculty, and students to set best practices for using AI in classrooms and to test a pilot class later this fall—officials say the group will meet quarterly as the school year unfolds.  5 News

  • State Lands Commissioner Tommy Land announced that tax-delinquent properties in Benton and Washington counties will be auctioned next week in Springdale with registration beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and bidding starting at 10 a.m. at the Holiday Inn and NWA Convention Center (1500 S. 48th St.).  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Tax-delinquent properties in Benton and Washington counties will be auctioned next week from 10 a.m. Wednesday in Springdale at the Holiday Inn and NWA Convention Center—registration begins at 9 a.m. and bidders must register with a valid ID and pay in full at the site, according to Commissioner Tommy Land.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Defensive tackle Cam Ball—a senior from Atlanta—showed his strong loyalty at the preseason press conference on Aug. 14 by choosing to remain with the Razorbacks despite interest from other schools, saying he plays to honor his late father’s memory.
