CRIME NEWS

  • Former Rogers psychiatrist Brian Hyatt—accused of Medicaid fraud and arrested for DWI—was involuntarily admitted to a mental health facility after his attorneys claimed he is gravely disabled in his ongoing divorce case. His legal team seeks to overturn the May divorce decree while he faces over 200 civil lawsuits and upcoming hearings on Sept. 12 and Oct. 20.  KNWA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Fork School District is working to reverse a drop in enrollment amid a fast-growing region - school leaders and community members are exploring new measures to attract more students.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Marshall Islands debuted its men’s soccer team at the 2025 Outrigger Challenge Cup held at Jarrell Williams Bulldog Stadium in Springdale, playing international matches against the U.S. Virgin Islands on August 14th at 8 p.m. and Turks and Caicos on August 16th at 1 p.m. The team set a milestone after launching its Soccer Federation in 2020—supported by crowdfunding and a strong diaspora community.  NWA Business Journal
  • The Bentonville Tigers relied on a strong senior class to achieve a 9-4 football season in 2024—while Rogers Heritage, with a new head coach, worked to end a long losing streak.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • University of Arkansas linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. did not participate in the recent scrimmage after undergoing a procedure that required five days of rest — coach Sam Pittman said he should be fully ready for the Aug. 30 opener. Sorey, who started all 13 games last season and recovered from a hamstring injury, is expected to return to full strength soon.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
