EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teen Action and Support Center will host its first Alternatives to College Night in Rogers on Aug. 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.—the event gives teens and parents a chance to learn about trade, technical and beauty school options at The Hub on W. Walnut Street.  KNWA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A study funded by the Walmart Foundation and conducted by The Recycling Partnership finds that individual cities in Northwest Arkansas cannot manage recycling on their own—regional cooperation is now necessary to improve efficiency.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Sept. 1, a new Arkansas law will restrict vape and tobacco sales and advertising—stores selling unapproved products risk fines or permit suspensions. The Tobacco Control agency will list allowed items by Nov. 1 and approval for disposable vapes with nicotine remains limited to FDA reviewed products.  KNWA
  • Regional housing groups said Northwest Arkansas will slowly see more alternative housing options — including accessory dwelling units — after the new state law is implemented. Rep. Nicole Clowney and Sen. Bart Hester sponsored the law to address serious housing needs statewide.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Uvalde Lindsey—a long-time Northwest Arkansas Council leader and legislator key to projects like XNA and highway improvements—recently passed away, leaving a lasting influence on the region. Mike Malone, who succeeded Lindsey and now works with Economic Leadership, praised his humble guidance and dedicated service to the community.  NWA Business Journal
