COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pedal It Forward is a non-profit that fixes and gives away bikes to people in need, and it is working with local businesses for bike drives this week—its drive with Rise Physical Therapy runs from August 25th to 29th while NorthWest Arkansas Community College hosts a drive on August 28th and 29th with drop-off sites in Springdale and Bentonville.  KNWA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In August, sales tax revenue for Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers and Springdale increased by 0.56% to $10.013 million compared with last year. Springdale reported $2.209 million for August—its year-to-date total climbed 6.37% despite a slight monthly dip.  NWA Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Families in northwest Arkansas who filed a lawsuit against four school districts over a state law requiring each school to display the Ten Commandments pushed to add Conway School District as a defendant after discovering the district posted the displays in every classroom despite a federal injunction—lawyers said the move aimed to stop unconstitutional religious coercion in schools. The lawsuit alleges that the mandated displays violate First Amendment rights by forcing a specific religious practice in public schools.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Arkansas State Broadband Office released its final plan for the BEAD Program for public review until Friday, August 29—23 internet providers were chosen to cover over 79,000 homes and businesses, and construction will begin in early 2026 pending NTIA approval and final General Assembly authorization.  5 News
