CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A former Bentonville police detective admitted shooting and killing Canada geese in a private neighborhood pond in Rogers last month—according to the Rogers Police Department. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ John Brown University in Siloam Springs reached record enrollment on August 20—1,423 students joined the campus as 441 new students began orientation; the group included 374 freshmen, 59 transfers, and eight returning students. The incoming class chose top programs in business, visual arts, nursing, engineering, and teacher education. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Plaintiffs in Conway filed a motion on Monday to add the school district and two families to their lawsuit over Act 573— the law that requires public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments. The district continued to post the posters after a judge temporarily blocked the law, and Attorney General Tim Griffin asked the court to deny the motion. Fayetteville Flyer

Sarah Huckabee Sanders amended an executive order on Wednesday to add $1.5 million for communities hit by April storms and tornadoes—bringing total relief funds to $1.85 million to be managed by the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management for disaster recovery.
