COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local nonprofit H2Ozarks will host a free event next week at the Elkins Community Center at 162 Doolin Drive from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. that offers free food, septic system advice & raffle prizes including a year’s supply of toilet paper and a $150 rebate for septic pumping, helping homeowners learn how to protect their water quality.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville will host the 20th anniversary production of Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert on Saturday as rehearsals continue for a national tour launch—local audiences will see the new show and hear conductor Emily Marshall say it appeals even to those new to the series.  KNWA
  • A Springdale woman, Abigail DeJarnatt, remembered conservative activist Charlie Kirk as a role model and friend—he was clear in his ideas and held strong to his faith. She met him when she was a student through Turning Point USA at the University of Arkansas and attended a prayer vigil on Thursday night where community members vowed to keep his work alive.  4029 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Springdale opened its new 40,000-square foot Senior Center today as part of a $14 million investment from the 2023 Bond Program. The center offers a commercial kitchen, gym, indoor pickleball courts, and a salon and barber shop — giving seniors a place for meals, exercise, and social gatherings.  KNWA
  • The Arkansas National Guard will soon send 40 unarmed troops to help ICE with tasks at offices in Little Rock, Fort Smith, Fayetteville and Camp Robinson — a move that immigrant advocates say could lead to more fear and racial profiling in local communities.  KNWA

  • Arkansas coach Sam Pittman and Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin exchanged respectful messages ahead of tomorrow’s 6 p.m. game in Oxford—Pittman said Kiffin brings energy to the league while Kiffin discussed his career documentary and praised Arkansas players.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
