  • The 5NEWS Weekend Guide shows many events will take place in Northwest Arkansas from Sept 19 to 21, with farmers markets, live music and outdoor adventures scheduled in Springdale, Rogers and Siloam Springs. In Springdale, the Lawns to Landscapes: History and Design Workshop will run Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—other areas will host the Monarch Flight Festival, Cane Hill Harvest Festival and more.  5 News

  • Rogers School District is raising the starting salary for new teachers—its plan will also use the projected budget to offer raises to all employees this school year.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tontitown City Council approved an 18% sewer rate increase that will take effect on Sept 19 with bills due on Nov 15 showing the updated charge. Public Works Director James Clark said the rise is needed to cover higher costs from an $85 million facility expansion — council member Tim Burress urged that developers share more of these costs.  5 News

  • University of Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said cornerback Kani Walker is good after a collision with teammate Caleb Wooden’s knee in the fourth quarter of the Ole Miss loss and is unsure of Walker’s recovery time—Jaheim Singletary will take extra practice reps as Walker’s status remains uncertain.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Bentonville teen Hayden Guerrero is competing in the quarterfinals of the Youth Athlete of the Year competition—where young athletes aim for a $25,000 prize and a Sports Illustrated ad—after starting flag football when his family moved from Kansas in 2021. Public votes will decide if he advances as the quarterfinals end Sept 18 and the semifinals begin Sept 19.  KNWA
  • Kenyan runner Faith Kipyegon won her fourth 1,500 world title Tuesday night in Tokyo with a time of 3:52.15 and a nearly three-second lead over Dorcus Ewoi—joining Hicham El Guerrouj as the second runner to win four titles. Former Arkansas Razorback Nikki Hiltz finished fifth, giving local track fans in Springdale extra pride in the world stage.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The fall Square to Square bike ride will take place on Saturday, Oct. 11 with riders leaving Fayetteville between 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. from the upper Ramble and riding 32 miles to Bentonville with pit stops at Lake Fayetteville and Shiloh Square in Springdale—participants must register by Oct. 8 to get a goody bag, t-shirt, and finisher medal while a DIY option and $10 shuttles are also offered.  Fayetteville Flyer
