- ➤ Brittany and Larry McDaniel bought a daycare in Centerton in 2023, hoping to create a fun learning space for kids. They later found that the business misused COVID-19 relief funds as normal income—leaving them with half a million dollars in debt and pushing for stronger buyer protections. 5 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Medium in downtown Springdale is accepting applications for InnerSpace 2026 — a free creative program offering access to a 25,000-square-foot venue at 214 S. Main St. Applicants must submit by 5 p.m. Oct. 8 and, if selected in a live random drawing on Oct. 22, will schedule a project on one Wednesday between January and June 2026. KNWA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Boulevard Brewing Company has expanded its local sustainability efforts by partnering with the University of Arkansas for the Pick Up Where You Play cleanup campaign—part of the NWA Litter Clean Up program that aims to remove litter from parks and trails. The company said it will lead fall cleanup efforts that invite local volunteers to help maintain community spaces. KNWA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Northwest Arkansas residents gave input on housing, transit and public spaces during an eight-day roadshow that began on Sept. 17 and will continue through Sept. 24 with meetings set across Benton and Washington counties. A Washington County meeting will be held on Sept. 24 at The Medium in Springdale — residents can also share ideas online in English and Spanish. KNWA
- ➤ Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin sent a letter on Sept. 18 stating that Fayetteville is now in compliance with state law after Mayor Molly Rawn clarified that her comments did not establish a sanctuary policy — the certification makes the city eligible for state funding as long as it continues to comply with the law. KNWA
- ➤ Judge Patrick Deakins presented findings from investigations that revealed a toxic culture and misuse of county funds in the sheriff’s office, warning that taxpayers could pursue civil action against illegal exactions. Sheriff Jay Cantrell dismissed the presentation as politically charged by noting that the judge’s chief of staff is running for sheriff—commenting during election season. 5 News

- ➤ Razorback golfers Maria Fassi and Maria Jose Marin will compete at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in Rogers—they received sponsors' invites and look forward to playing in front of a home crowd as they prepare for future LPGA events. 5 News

- ➤ The Arkansas volleyball team won a match on Thursday night at Barnhill Arena by defeating Southern Illinois by sets of 25 to 15, 25 to 16, and 25 to 14 with Parker Duncan and Lakin Laurendine leading with top kills—earning the Razorbacks their first back-to-back win this season. The team will face North Dakota State today at 7 p.m. and play Arkansas State on Saturday at 2 p.m. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
