COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Springdale Public Library nearly completed its $1.8 million renovation after ten months of work using American Rescue funds. The building will add 2,600 square feet for children and family programs—and work is expected to finish by Nov. 1. KNWA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Highfill City Council will meet today at 6 p.m. to discuss an agreement with Northwest Arkansas National Airport that detaches the airport from the city — the plan sets a timeline to end city taxation on XNA customers by December 31 and ensures repayment of previously issued bonds. KNWA
- ➤ The Northwest Arkansas Council has begun planning a regional development authority for Benton, Washington, and Madison counties to support local growth and job opportunities. The authority will use industrial revenue bonds—without raising taxes—to finance real estate and infrastructure projects as the area continues to expand. KNWA
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Arkansas Razorbacks will keep permanent opponents—LSU, Texas and Missouri—on their football schedule for at least four years when the new SEC plan is released today at 6 p.m. Coach Sam Pittman said he chose teams that are close by and added that injured players like Kani Walker will have more tests before Saturday’s game. - ➤ On Saturday, Arkansas lost 32-31 to Memphis after Mike Washington Jr. fumbled with 1:22 left—ending their chance to win even though Taylen Green threw for 325 yards. The Razorbacks are 2-2 and will host Notre Dame on Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. on ABC. Fayetteville Flyer
