  • After the USDA announced it will stop producing the Household Food Security Reports after thirty years, Samaritan Community Center said the local nonprofit is losing key data needed for long-term planning. Executive Director Debbie Rambo noted a 26% rise in families seeking help and said the change will affect future grant requests even though there is no immediate impact.  KNWA

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Vacancies in Northwest Arkansas commercial real estate increased to 7.2% for the first half of 2025, the highest since 2021, but experts said the market remains healthy with strong growth in building permits. Building permits jumped nearly 48% from the second half of 2024 and Springdale saw available warehouse space more than double—showing a steady, expanding market.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • A Washington County restaurant had raw bacon stored on a wire shelf above ready-to-eat food during a recent inspection—this breach of food safety protocols increases the risk of foodborne illness by violating priority guidelines.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Arkansas and Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz will return to Fayetteville on Saturday to attend the Razorbacks game against Notre Dame on ABC at 11 a.m.—the match is the first part of a home-and-home series after a planned 2020 contest was rescheduled to 2028 due to COVID-19.  KNWA
  • No. 3 Greenwood (3–0) will welcome No. 8 Shiloh Christian (2–1) Friday night for a key 6A-West Conference game as the Bulldogs, with a 71-home win streak that began in 2014, look to extend their record while the Saints aim to notch their first win against the Bulldogs since 2010.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas Razorbacks schedule released Tuesday night shows Texas will be an annual SEC opponent over the next four seasons and they will meet in Austin in back-to-back seasons — the new schedule lets players visit every SEC road game while adjusting home and away matches in later seasons.
