- ➤ On Thursday, Washington County planners heard from former planning commission director Jeff Hawkins—who recommended conventional zoning to manage explosive growth—at a meeting on land use. County Attorney Brian Lester and Judge Patrick Deakins warned that without clear zoning, the county could face a 'Wild West' scenario—large-scale development happening unchecked—and the board took no action.
