- ➤ Bentonville-based Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Northwest Arkansas received $135,000 in donations from the Schmieding Foundation and Chambers Bank, which put the Building for Success Capital Campaign at 69% of its $7.4 million goal to build a new Springdale headquarters called the Pat Walker Center for Success—Schmieding’s gift funds a walking path while Chambers Bank gains naming rights for a community gathering space in the therapeutic garden. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Oct. 16 at 10:16 a.m., over 24,000 Arkansans will join an earthquake readiness drill organized by the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management to practice dropping, covering and holding on during an earthquake. The annual ShakeOut exercise will help communities near the New Madrid Fault prepare in case a major quake occurs. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sanctuary is a ten‑week dance program for survivors of human trafficking, domestic abuse and sexual assault held at the Access Point in Springdale that lets participants reconnect with their bodies and heal. Dance instructor Cece Marie and therapist Joi McGowan lead the classes using movement and art — giving survivors a safe space to reclaim their voice. KNWA
