CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville was locked down Monday night after an anonymous call hinted at a swatting attack—police responded with multiple officers, secured the facility, and later lifted the lockdown while the investigation continued. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks announced a $220,000 donation from the Koch family to fund a new greenhouse and upgrade its Totemeier Center. The gift will double the garden’s capacity and improve public spaces—boosting its role as a local cultural asset. KNWA
- ➤ The 15th Annual Ozark Media Arts Festival kicked off in downtown Springdale on Oct 14 with competitions where students from Arkansas and nearby states showcased their media skills. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The government shutdown led ASP to cut its federal funding by 60% on Oct 1, which now puts over 200 local families at risk and forces the childcare service to raise its rates to cover essential costs—this may cause families to drop out and reduce staff numbers. ASP uses the funding to maintain low care ratios and quality team members across 26 schools. KNWA
- ➤ State officials announced Monday that if the shutdown continues into November, funding for Arkansas’ SNAP program may fall short—over 222,000 residents could be directed to food banks and pantries if full benefits are not approved. KNWA
