- ➤ Bentonville-based Walmart Inc. acquired nearly 90 acres in Benton County for $15.5 million—about $173,903 per acre. The deal included 50.43 acres near Old Wire Road and East Apple Blossom Avenue in north Springdale, and the retailer has no plans for the land. NWA Business Journal

- ➤ NLR native John-Michael Powell made a crime thriller called Violent Ends set in the Ozarks that shows tough characters and intense scenes meant to unsettle viewers—he used his film to tell a story of revenge in his home region. Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ 5 Seconds of Summer will perform at Walmart AMP on Tuesday, Aug. 18 as part of its “EVERYONE’S A STAR” world tour — gates will open at 6 p.m. and tickets will go on sale Friday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. KNWA
- ➤ Springdale residents are set for a busy weekend as Razorback sports feature a pre-season softball game and a basketball exhibition today, a football match on Saturday, and a soccer final on Sunday, while outdoor movies, music concerts and Halloween events provide fun for all. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A federal government shutdown may affect the SNAP program that helps more than 222,000 residents; while October benefits are fully funded, November benefits could be at risk if the shutdown continues—KNWA/FOX24 has updated local food pantry schedules for the area. KNWA
- ➤ Council leaders said on Oct. 23 that bold action and a collective commitment are needed for sustainable growth in Northwest Arkansas—at the State of the Region luncheon they noted job growth improvements alongside rising home prices and infrastructure challenges. The council, partnering with the University of Arkansas, reported that high-tech job creation and wage increases have made gains though R&D spending still lags behind peer cities. - ➤ The Children and Family Advocacy Center in Little Flock lost $600,000 in federal funding cuts that helped support about 1,000 children and their families, and the loss will force the center to make tough choices soon. Benton County has already approved $102,000 from next year’s budget—officials plan further actions to cover an additional shortfall this year. KNWA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Washington Regional Medical Center will assume operations of Physicians’ Specialty Hospital starting December 1. The hospital will offer orthopedic, spine, and other elective surgeries as well as emergency care—this expansion is a strategic move to boost capacity. KNWA
