EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas law now requires schools to teach gun safety lessons to students as young as five so they know to stop—don’t touch, leave quickly and tell an adult if they find a firearm; similar laws in Tennessee and Utah call for neutral instruction and let parents choose alternate courses. Schools may use games and videos in these lessons to help children learn how to stay safe. KNWA

- ➤ In 2023, Arkansas ranked 5th in the nation for cancer deaths with a rate of 168.5 per 100,000 residents, which is higher than the national rate of 145.4. Rates varied by county, with Northwest Arkansas recording lower numbers and Cleveland County reaching 393.1 per 100,000. KNWA
