- ➤ Local businesses and restaurants will honor active and retired military on Veterans Day, November 11 with deals and free meals—offers that may change as more discounts are added. Many chain locations are taking part to show thanks for service. KNWA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced an extra $500,000 in state funds to help food banks amid the ongoing federal government shutdown; the money will be distributed Monday, Nov 10th by the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance+ it will target areas with many SNAP users, including support for the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank at Springdale. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Between January 1st and October 31st, Arkansans spent over $240.9 million on medical marijuana—about $13 million more than last year—with patients buying 65,525 pounds and the state reporting 112,760 active patient cards. Tax revenue from these sales is set to fund free meals for public school students and is expected to push total sales past the $283 million record by year’s end. KNWA
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Arkansas’ modern gun deer season opened Saturday, Nov. 8 and thousands of hunters took to the woods as over 47,700 deer were checked during archery, firearm and youth hunts. Many camps will remain active through Veterans Day as hunters follow safety rules set by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission + check licenses and tags. KNWA
