BUSINESS NEWS

  • The University of Arkansas opened the National Multi-User Silicon Carbide Research and Fabrication Laboratory on Nov. 14 at the Arkansas Research and Technology Park in Fayetteville — a $95 million facility that will let businesses, federal labs and universities prototype advanced chips using silicon carbide. It will finish qualification runs in early 2026 and then offer open access for semiconductor research.  NWA Business Journal
  • Walmart announced on November 14 that CEO Doug McMillon will step down on January 31 and that John Furner, CEO of Walmart U.S., will take over the role—Furner was also named to the board. McMillon will keep his board seat until June and work as an advisor until January 2027.  NWA Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country singer-songwriter Parker McCollum will perform at the Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion on Friday, September 18 as part of his 2026 tour celebrating the release of his fifth album PARKER MCCOLLUM—doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Presales begin November 18 and standard ticket sales start November 21.  KNWA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • UA-Fayetteville Chancellor Charles Robinson was elected as the presiding co-chairman of the Northwest Arkansas Council at a Bentonville meeting on Wednesday night, with 290 members voting his appointment without dissent—his role supports council plans to grow the workforce and attract talent. More details on regional growth projects will be shared at the April 15 meeting.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Springdale quarterback Carson Hayter led the Bulldogs to a 55-31 win over Cabot at Panther Stadium in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs — he rushed 19 times for 151 yards, scored 5 touchdowns, and threw for one extra score.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Next week, high school football teams will play second-round playoff games across classes 7A to 2A with matchups including Bentonville West at Conway and Fayetteville at Bryant. An 8-man semifinal is scheduled at War Memorial Stadium—other games feature teams such as Little Rock Christian at Rogers and Springdale at Bentonville.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
