COMMUNITY NEWS

  • High turkey prices and low production are straining food banks nationwide as they struggle to reach Thanksgiving donation goals+ a turkey plant in Springdale closed last August, worsening supplies amid a 44% price increase. Some organizations have canceled deliveries and cut back on orders while relying on key donations to narrow the shortage.  Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Operation Christmas Child collected gift boxes for children in need across Arkansas from November 17 to November 24—hosted by Samaritan’s Purse—with drop-off sites noted in communities like Springdale and beyond. The drive provided shoeboxes filled with school supplies, toys, and personal care items and aimed to serve 12 million children.  KNWA
  • Mercy awarded $500,000 in grants to over 35 organizations, including six local groups that aid children, the elderly, the homeless and uninsured residents. The funds will support services for more than 220,000 people through programs that expand mental health care and community support—steps designed to address key health needs.  KNWA

  • The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks will host its Winter Glow event next month — a one-night magical experience that includes a special appearance by Ashley Wardlow. Visitors will enjoy unique light displays and seasonal décor at the event.  KNWA
  • KNWA launched its Remarkable Women initiative to honor female leaders who impact public policy and local communities—nominations for local finalists close Dec.19 and winners will receive prizes including media packages and donations for their charities. The program is part of a nationwide effort by Nexstar Media to celebrate women’s achievements throughout Women’s History Month.  KNWA

  • Retailers in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley are gearing up for Black Friday as they roll out deals at stores within 100 miles—this guide highlights offerings from locations like Fayetteville, Rogers, and Fort Smith. Shoppers can plan to visit these stores to take advantage of the savings when the event begins.  KNWA
