CRIME NEWS

  • John Anthony Cole, 48, a convicted murderer from Arizona, was arrested on April 7 in Fort Smith on charges of first-degree murder + other offenses for the fatal shooting of Jeremiah Tel Hawthorne on October 2; he pleaded not guilty on April 9 and will appear in court on April 14 to set his trial date.  KNWA
  • A Springdale man pleaded not guilty to charges of possessing a machine gun and stealing a firearm from a car in Washington County Circuit Court Friday—his legal case continues under review.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Walmart Museum reopened on March 14 after a year-long renovation that preserved its original design and historical items from Sam Walton’s first 5—10 store. The museum now offers interactive digital exhibits and an expanded Spark Café—inviting visitors to explore the legacy of the retail giant.  5 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Five international students at the University of Arkansas had their visitor records revoked by the Department of Homeland Security but the university did not give a reason; DHS has not provided further details & concerns remain about the immigration status of similar students nationwide.  4029 News
  • David McClure, principal of Woodland Jr. High, was named 2025 Principal of the Year by the Arkansas Association of Middle Level Administrators at a surprise ceremony on April 11—his strong leadership and the school's high test scores were highlighted—and education officials praised his support of teachers.  KNWA
